The Davis Sailing Team at the University of California, Davis is a student organization that races competitively against other universities. Our focus is racing but we teach all our members basic seamanship skills that can be applied to any type of sailing.
Only 20 minutes from campus, The Davis Sailing Team is based out of Lake Washington Sailing Club (LWSC) in West Sacramento. Our practices and regattas are on the weekends as well as one weekday practice on Fridays, which allows us to compete while still focusing on school.
As a member of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA), which is the governing collegiate racing body, the Davis Sailing Team belongs to the Pacific Cost Collegiate Sailing Conference (PCCSC). PCCSC encompasses that many of the universities in California, Arizona, and Hawaii, including, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UC San Diego, University of Southern California, CSU Monterey Bay, California Maritime, Cal Poly SLO, Oregan State University, Western Washington, as well as many others.
As a student organization, the Davis Sailing Team receives no financial assistance from the university. Therefore the team is dependent on outside donations and membership dues. Membership is very affordable; it is only $130 (all inclusive) for a student to join for the entire quarter. The team makes up the difference in tax deductible donations due to our non-profit status as a 501c3 organization. We are always looking for donations and sponsorships!
No sailing experience is necessary to join. We generally have weekly meetings Wednesday nights at 9 PM, for more information please send us an e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
